Money Literacy Game at Yayasan Cinta Baca Sidoarjo

We are excited to share that our recent community service event at Yayasan Cinta Baca in Sidoarjo was a great success! This time, we focused on teaching money literacy in a fun and engaging way through a special game designed by the Architecture Department (Led by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI., lecturer from Architecture PCU). At the same time, Elementary Teacher Education Department (Iman Subekti, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer from Elementary Teacher Education Department) led a session on basic math skills, helping the participants practice important concepts in an interactive and enjoyable manner.We are grateful to the Yayasan Cinta Baca team for welcoming us again and to our partners in the Elementary Teacher Education and Architecture Departments for their collaboration. This event was a fantastic opportunity to learn together and make a positive impact on the community. We look forward to more events like this in the future!
Library 101 Exhibition: Getting to Know Your Library

Our “Library 101: Getting to Know Your Library” exhibition was a great way for new students and visitors to learn about what our library has to offer. This event was set up to introduce everyone to the basics of using the library, with displays showing all the different resources and services available. Students were able to check out information stations about study spaces, how to borrow books, reserve rooms, and access online resources, along with unique features like our Kindle lending for use inside the library. A fun trivia quiz was part of the exhibition, where students could test their knowledge about the library and win a small prize for participating. This made it easy to learn about the library while having a bit of fun! We’re glad to see so many students enjoying the exhibition and quiz. PDWLIS 2024: Maldives – Enhancing Library & Information Services through International Exposure

July 28 to August 3, 2024 Professional Development Workshop on Library & Information Services (PDWLIS) 2024 brings an exciting opportunity for library professionals from the Maldives to explore global advancements in library and information science. This program is designed to provide insights into how libraries are adapting and growing. As part of their visit, the PDWLIS 2024 participants took part in a focused workshop session entitled “Librarian’s Role in Research Support Services.” This workshop provided an in-depth look at how modern libraries are pivotal in supporting academic research through specialized services, cutting-edge technology, and expert guidance. Our librarian, Mr. Chandra Pratama shared insights and discussed strategies for enhancing research support, sparking engaging discussions among attendees. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the PDWLIS 2024 participants for visiting Petra Christian University Library and contributing to this valuable exchange of knowledge and ideas. It has been a pleasure to share our achievements and learn from the global perspectives brought by our esteemed guests.
Exhibition and Talkshow: Old But New “Kota Lama Surabaya”

Petra Christian University Library hosted an engaging event titled “Old but New: Kota Lama Surabaya”. This event featured a talkshow and an exhibition that celebrated the history and ongoing development of Surabaya’s old town. The exhibition showcased a fascinating collection of photographs comparing the past and present of Surabaya. Visitors could see images of iconic buildings and landmarks, showing how they have changed over the years. The display also included creative works from our architecture students, who presented their ideas about various buildings in Kota Lama Surabaya. Attendees had the chance to join in lively discussions, share ideas, and gain new insights into the importance of blending tradition with innovation. The event highlighted the university’s dedication to appreciating local history while embracing future advancements.

The students of the Materials Engineering course, guided by Prof. Dr. Juliana Anggono, S.T., M.Sc., successfully organized the Festival of Materials Exhibition. The event featured an array of innovative projects and welcomed enthusiastic students from SDN Siwalankerto II. The festival provided an exciting platform for learning and collaboration, highlighting the future of materials engineering.

Seminar: The Art of Writing in Social Media

In an era where social media dominates the digital landscape, mastering the art of crafting engaging and persuasive content is essential for businesses and individuals alike. Recognizing this need, a seminar titled “The Art of Writing in Social Media” was held on Friday, March 22, 2024, offering some Petranesians valuable insights and strategies for creating impactful content. A Collaboration event hosted by PCU Library and UKM Menulis Kreatif, the seminar featured esteemed guest speaker Putu M. Wijaya, an expert in the field of User Experience (UX) writing and the Lead UX Writer at tiket.com. Wijaya, an alumnus of DKV PCU Batch 2010, brought a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the event. The seminar also served as a platform for participants to engage in interactive discussions and Q&A sessions, allowing participants to gain further insights and clarification on specific topics related to social media content creation. Overall, the seminar on “The Art of Writing in Social Media” proved to be a valuable resource for marketers, content creators, and anyone looking to harness the power of social media for effective communication and engagement. Led by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI. (lecturer from Architecture PCU) and a collaboration with PCU Library, we take initiative saw to impart valuable literacy skills to the children of Yayasan Cinta Baca Sidoarjo. The event not only showcased the commitment of the PCU community to making a positive difference but also highlighted the importance of education and community engagement especially in terms of increasing literacy awareness of young generation. Under the guidance of Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI. PCU Architecture students engaged with the children through interactive sessions, aimed at fostering a love for reading and learning. From storytelling sessions to educational learning and games, the activities were designed to be both enriching and enjoyable, creating a nurturing environment for the young learners. The event at Yayasan Cinta Baca Sidoarjo served as a reminder of the power of education to transform lives and strengthen communities.
