Petra Christian University Library Joins the Celebration at Petra Parade 2025

From July 30 to August 2, 2025, PCU Library took part in the vibrant celebration of Petra Parade 2025 — a festive event that brought together departments and faculties across the university. The celebration also welcomed students and teachers from PCU’s partner high schools, offering them a glimpse of campus life through a variety of engaging activities. Throughout the event, visitors enjoyed interactive games, campus tours, live music, mural painting, and the launch of PCU’s newest program — the Artificial Intelligence Program, marking an exciting step forward in PCU’s academic innovation. As part of the celebration, PCU Library joined the fun by hosting interactive games and trivia quizzes for visitors. These activities not only entertained guests but also introduced them to the library’s unique resources and services in a fun and interactive way. To further highlight the role of the library in supporting academic life, a special exhibition was also set up, showcasing the library’s collections, facilities, and various services available for students and researchers. Petra Parade was a wonderful opportunity for the PCU Library to connect with new students and visitors, sharing the joy of learning and the spirit of community that defines Petra Christian University.
Designing for Everyone: Heritage Meets Inclusivity at PCU Library

PCU Library welcomed participants of the Asia Summer Program (ASP) 2025 for an engaging and insightful session as part of the course “Universal Design for Buildings with Heritage Context.” In this session, participants explored the concept of universal design—creating spaces that can be accessed and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of ability or background. Through hands-on simulations, they experienced various accessibility challenges firsthand, allowing them to develop not only a deeper understanding of inclusive design principles but also greater empathy for diverse user experiences. The activity demonstrated how thoughtful design can bridge the gap between heritage preservation and modern accessibility, encouraging future designers and planners to make historic environments open to all. As a space that values inclusivity, the PCU Library was proud to support this learning activity—showcasing how libraries can serve as living laboratories for empathy-driven education. Fostering Literacy and Inclusion: A Visit from Yayasan Pendidikan Autis Mutiara Hati to PCU Library

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Petra Christian University (PCU) Library had the pleasure of welcoming special guests from Yayasan Pendidikan Autis Mutiara Hati, Sidoarjo. This visit was part of the library’s ongoing efforts to support inclusivity and provide a welcoming learning space for everyone, including friends from the disability community. During the visit, participants engaged in a series of fun, light activities designed to introduce basic literacy in an enjoyable way. Activities included singing and dancing together, listening to a storytelling session, reading picture books, and coloring with guidance. All activities were carefully prepared to encourage positive interaction and make the library experience joyful and engaging for the participants. As an academic library, PCU Library offers not only academic collections, but also open spaces for learning, exploring ideas, and interacting with others. This visit was a valuable opportunity to introduce the concept of a library through direct and meaningful experience. The success of this event was made possible through the collaboration of many parties. We extend our sincere thanks to the students from the Elementary Teacher Education (PGSD) and Early Childhood Teacher Education (PGPAUD) program who enthusiastically supported and guided the participants throughout the activities. Early Childhood Learning Media Exhibition: Fun Learning, Advancing Literacy

Petra Christian University Library once again became a lively and joyful learning space through the event “Early Childhood Learning Media Exhibition: Fun Learning, Advancing Literacy.” This exhibition showcased a variety of educational play tools created by students of the Early Childhood Education (PGPAUD) Study Program, designed to support creative and interactive learning for young children. The exhibition invited preschool students from nearby schools to visit the library and take part in hands-on learning experiences. In a child-friendly atmosphere, participants were encouraged to learn through play using various learning media that stimulate motor skills, cognitive development, language abilities, and basic literacy. Each educational tool was designed not only to be visually engaging but also to carry clear learning objectives. Through this event, the library served as an inclusive and welcoming literacy space for children from an early age. The children were introduced to the library not only as a place for books, but also as a safe and enjoyable environment for exploring knowledge. At the same time, PGPAUD students were given the opportunity to implement their learning concepts directly in a real educational setting. This exhibition reflects a meaningful collaboration between the library and the academic community in supporting early childhood literacy development. It is hoped that the event will help foster a love for learning from an early age, strengthen literacy culture, and introduce the library as an important partner in children’s education. With the spirit of fun learning and advancing literacy, Petra Christian University Library remains committed to presenting educational programs that create positive and lasting impacts for the community, especially for future generations.
Community Service: SMPN 57 Surabaya

As part of its commitment to supporting education and literacy in the community, PCU Library actively participated in a community service program held at SMPN 57 Surabaya. The program initiated by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI., a lecturer from the Architecture Department of PCU, in collaboration with Mr. Iman Subekti, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer from Elementary Teacher Education Department of PCU and the PCU Library. During the event, students created their own trash bin designs to support proper waste separation: organic, inorganic, and residual. This creative activity not only engaged students in hands-on learning, but also raised awareness about environmental responsibility and correct waste sorting. In addition, a fun and educational money literacy game was conducted to introduce students to basic financial management concepts such as saving, distinguishing needs vs. wants, and budgeting. This initiative reflects PCU Library’s active role in extending literacy impact beyond the campus, reaching out to schools and communities to nurture a generation that is more mindful and financially literate.
ArchFest 2025 – Threads of Time: Weaving Heritage into Function

PCU Library is proud to support Architecture Festival (ArchFest) 2025, an international architectural design competition organized annually by the Architecture Department of Petra Christian University. This year marks the 18th ArchFest, and the theme is “Threads of Time: Weaving Heritage into Function.” The theme invites students from around the world to rethink how old buildings, especially in Kota Lama Surabaya, can be reused with new functions while still preserving their cultural and historical value. Through the concept of adaptive reuse, young architects are encouraged to create designs that are modern, creative, and relevant but still respect the past. By becoming the official venue partner, PCU Library helps support this meaningful event by providing a space for students and the academic community to explore the relationship between architecture, culture, and history. This collaboration shows PCU Library’s commitment not only to knowledge and learning but also to celebrating creativity and preserving heritage for future generations.
Workshop: Artificial Intelligence for People with Disabilities in Education and Employment

In today’s rapidly evolving digital era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an innovative solution to enhance inclusivity for people with disabilities. This Artificial Intelligence workshop aims to introduce various AI applications that can support the independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities across different aspects of daily living. As a city committed to becoming a disability-friendly city, Surabaya has developed a range of inclusive policies and facilities, from public infrastructure to social empowerment programs. This workshop will strengthen these initiatives by introducing technologies such as ChatGPT and Envision AI, which enhance visual accessibility and support learning for students with special needs. Additionally, discussions will cover how AI can help create more inclusive workplaces and how AI-based counseling services can support the mental health of people with disabilities. Through interactive sessions, technology demonstrations, and discussions with experts, participants will gain insights and practical skills to leverage AI in everyday life. This workshop is open to educators, professionals, individuals with disabilities, and anyone interested in contributing to building a more inclusive future through technology, especially with Surabaya leading as a model city for inclusivity in Indonesia. Literacy Seminar: SMA Petra 5 Surabaya

PCU Library had the wonderful opportunity to visit SMA Petra 5 Surabaya and hold a Literacy Seminar focusing on Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and How to Use It Wisely as Students and in University Life. The event aimed to introduce students to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), helping them understand what AI is, how it works, and, most importantly, how to use it responsibly in their academic journey. In an era where AI tools are becoming increasingly common in education, it is crucial for students to not just use technology, but to use it wisely — balancing innovation with integrity. The seminar also featured interactive game sessions led by PCU students, making the learning experience fun and engaging. Through these games, students could better grasp the concepts of AI while actively participating and enjoying the activities. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by SMA Petra 5 students made the sessions lively and memorable. We would like to sincerely thank SMA Petra 5 Surabaya for inviting us and providing such a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. It was truly a pleasure to share knowledge and learn together. We hope this seminar encouraged the students to use AI thoughtfully and ethically as they continue their academic journeys.
Exhibition: Aku Cinta Bahasa Indonesia

In support of language preservation and student creativity, PCU Library collaborated with the Department of General Courses (DMU) to hold an exhibition titled “Aku Cinta Bahasa Indonesia”. The event took place on the 6th floor of the PCU Library, showcasing creative works from students enrolled in the Bahasa Indonesia course for the 2024/2025 academic year. The exhibition featured a variety of works reflecting students’ love, innovation, and understanding of the Indonesian language as a symbol of national identity. Each work was accompanied by a title, description, and voting number, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the displayed creations. As part of the event, PCU Library organized a voting session to select the best work, with participation open to lecturers, administrative staff, and students of Petra Christian University. Through this exhibition, students are expected not only to enhance their Indonesian language skills but also to foster a deeper sense of pride and love for their national culture. PCU Library remains committed to being a space that appreciates and nurtures student potential across various fields.
Workshop: Bunda Belajar, Anak Pintar

Surabaya, February 19, 2025 – Petra Christian University (PCU) Library once again presents an educational program beneficial to the community. This time, through the workshop titled “Bunda Belajar, Anak Pintar”, the event served as a platform for Bunda PAUD to enhance their knowledge in educating young children. This workshop is a collaboration between PCU Library and Bunda PAUD Kecamatan Tegalsari. The event featured speakers such as Ms. Maria Nala Damajanti, S.Sn., M.Hum., a lecturer from the Visual Communication Design Program at PCU and Bunda PAUD of Kec. Tegalsari, along with Ms. Christina Albertina Ludwinia Parung, M.Psi., Psychologist, and lecturer from the General Subjects Department at PCU. Both speakers shared valuable insights and practical tips that can be applied to better support children’s development. The enthusiasm of the participants was palpable throughout the workshop. The attending Bunda PAUD actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences in educating children in their respective communities. Not only mothers, but fathers who attended (Panda – Papa PAUD) also participated in the interactive sessions, demonstrating their support for early childhood education. With this workshop, it is hoped that the acquired knowledge will inspire parents and educators in guiding children to grow into intelligent and well-rounded individuals.
