Pantehelix-Batik: Kolaborasi Untuk Masa Depan Batik

As part of the “Memetik Pucuk Batik” Exhibition series, Petra Christian University Library is organizing a talk show entitled “Pentahelix-Batik: Collaboration for the Future of Batik” on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM at theatre room, Petra Christian University Library, Surabaya. This event serves as an important momentum to open a space for dialogue and strengthen cross-sector collaboration in supporting the preservation and development of batik as an Indonesian cultural heritage and a source of contemporary innovation. Adopting the Pentahelix concept, the talk show brings together five speakers from various sectors representing academia, community, creative industry, research, and media: Dr. Ir. Lintu Tulistyantoro, M.Ds. as an academic and batik observer; Dra. Anik Rakhmawati, M.Pd as a representative of batik enthusiast and preservation communities; Silvia Ratnani, founder of GENARTA Collection, representing the creative industry in batik innovation; Drs. Gatut Priyowidodo, Ph.D. as an academic and museum batik researcher; and Dr. Ido Prijana Hadi, M.Si as an expert in media and communication for batik preservation. Through this discussion, the speakers will share insights and experiences on the importance of cross-sector synergy in building a creative, sustainable batik ecosystem that remains rooted in cultural heritage values. In addition to the main session, the event will feature an interactive discussion, providing participants with the opportunity to actively engage, share ideas, and expand collaborative networks. This initiative reflects Petra Christian University Library’s commitment to providing contextual and relevant spaces for knowledge sharing. The library serves not only as a center for literacy and information resources, but also as a dynamic space for research, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing culture and innovation.
Seminar: When Digital Literacy Powered by AI

In commemoration of International Literacy Day 2025, Petra Christian University Library organized a seminar entitled “When Digital Literacy Powered by AI” on Friday, 19th September 2025. The seminar served as a platform to discuss the role and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in strengthening digital literacy across various aspects of life, particularly within the academic environment. The seminar was attended by students who showed great enthusiasm in gaining a deeper understanding of the relationship between digital literacy and AI technology. Through this session, participants were encouraged to view digital literacy not merely as the ability to use digital devices, but also as the capacity to think critically, evaluate information, and utilize technology in an ethical and responsible manner. The seminar content was based on the UNESCO Digital Literacy Framework, which emphasizes the importance of accessing, understanding, evaluating, creating, and communicating information through digital technologies wisely. In the context of AI development, participants were invited to reflect on how artificial intelligence can serve as a tool to support digital literacy, while also presenting challenges that require ethical awareness and academic responsibility. This seminar marked the closing event of the International Literacy Day activities at the Petra Christian University Library, which also included a Reading Session and Literacy Giveaways. Through this series of activities, the library reaffirms its commitment to actively fostering a culture of literacy that is relevant, adaptive to technological advancements, and supportive of the academic community.
Talkshow: Ceritamu Dimulai dari Membaca

Petra Christian University Library held a talk show titled “Your Story Start From Reading” on August 27, 2025, at the Library’s 7th Floor Area. This event aimed to promote a culture of literacy among students by emphasizing the importance of reading as the foundation for critical thinking and academic writing skills. The session featured Johan Alvin Khosuma (Pak JAK), a branding consultant and author, who shared his experiences on how consistent reading habits can shape one’s ability to write effectively and think scientifically. In a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, Pak JAK encouraged students to see reading not just as an academic task, but as an enriching activity that broadens perspectives, cultivates empathy, and sparks creativity. The event also introduced students to various Petra Library services and collections, both in print and digital formats, highlighting the library’s role as a modern literacy hub supporting learning and intellectual growth. In addition to the discussion, the program included interactive games and quizzes that encouraged active participation. Students showed great enthusiasm throughout the session, actively engaging in the dialogue with the speaker. The talk show concluded with a group photo and prize distribution for the most active participants. Through this event, the library hopes to inspire students to build consistent reading habits, discover their passion for writing, and take part in strengthening the culture of literacy within the university community.
Smart Start with Petra Christian University Library

To welcome the new Batch ’25 students and celebrate the return of continuing students after the semester break, the PCU Library launched a month-long event series titled “Smart Start with PCU Library.” The program kicked off on August 11, 2025, offering a warm and engaging start to the new academic year. Through this series, the PCU Library aimed to help students get familiar with the library’s resources, services, and spaces — all while having fun and building connections. The activities included:📚 Library Exhibition — showcasing PCU Library’s diverse collections, digital resources, and services available for academic and research needs.🎯 Library Trivia Quiz and Games — interactive sessions that tested students’ knowledge about the library while adding a touch of friendly competition.🎓 Library Literacy Class: Introduction to PCU Library — a class designed to help new students navigate the library, access e-resources, and make the most of what the library offers.🍪 Welcome Snack — a sweet gesture from the library to greet students during their first 10 days back on campus.📸 Library Photo Contest: “PCU Library Through My Lens” — inviting students to capture their unique perspectives and experiences inside the library. More than just a set of activities, Smart Start with PCU Library represented the library’s commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for all students, a place where learning begins with curiosity and connection.
Petra Christian University Library Joins the Celebration at Petra Parade 2025

From July 30 to August 2, 2025, PCU Library took part in the vibrant celebration of Petra Parade 2025 — a festive event that brought together departments and faculties across the university. The celebration also welcomed students and teachers from PCU’s partner high schools, offering them a glimpse of campus life through a variety of engaging activities. Throughout the event, visitors enjoyed interactive games, campus tours, live music, mural painting, and the launch of PCU’s newest program — the Artificial Intelligence Program, marking an exciting step forward in PCU’s academic innovation. As part of the celebration, PCU Library joined the fun by hosting interactive games and trivia quizzes for visitors. These activities not only entertained guests but also introduced them to the library’s unique resources and services in a fun and interactive way. To further highlight the role of the library in supporting academic life, a special exhibition was also set up, showcasing the library’s collections, facilities, and various services available for students and researchers. Petra Parade was a wonderful opportunity for the PCU Library to connect with new students and visitors, sharing the joy of learning and the spirit of community that defines Petra Christian University.
Mendesain untuk Semua: Warisan dan Inklusivitas di Perpustakaan PCU

PCU Library welcomed participants of the Asia Summer Program (ASP) 2025 for an engaging and insightful session as part of the course “Universal Design for Buildings with Heritage Context.” In this session, participants explored the concept of universal design—creating spaces that can be accessed and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of ability or background. Through hands-on simulations, they experienced various accessibility challenges firsthand, allowing them to develop not only a deeper understanding of inclusive design principles but also greater empathy for diverse user experiences. The activity demonstrated how thoughtful design can bridge the gap between heritage preservation and modern accessibility, encouraging future designers and planners to make historic environments open to all. As a space that values inclusivity, the PCU Library was proud to support this learning activity—showcasing how libraries can serve as living laboratories for empathy-driven education. Menumbuhkan Literasi dan Inklusivitas: Kunjungan Yayasan Pendidikan Autis Mutiara Hati ke Perpustakaan PCU

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Petra Christian University (PCU) Library had the pleasure of welcoming special guests from Yayasan Pendidikan Autis Mutiara Hati, Sidoarjo. This visit was part of the library’s ongoing efforts to support inclusivity and provide a welcoming learning space for everyone, including friends from the disability community. During the visit, participants engaged in a series of fun, light activities designed to introduce basic literacy in an enjoyable way. Activities included singing and dancing together, listening to a storytelling session, reading picture books, and coloring with guidance. All activities were carefully prepared to encourage positive interaction and make the library experience joyful and engaging for the participants. As an academic library, PCU Library offers not only academic collections, but also open spaces for learning, exploring ideas, and interacting with others. This visit was a valuable opportunity to introduce the concept of a library through direct and meaningful experience. The success of this event was made possible through the collaboration of many parties. We extend our sincere thanks to the students from the Elementary Teacher Education (PGSD) and Early Childhood Teacher Education (PGPAUD) program who enthusiastically supported and guided the participants throughout the activities. Pameran Media Pembelajaran Anak Usia Dini: Belajar Seru, Literasi Maju

Petra Christian University Library once again became a lively and joyful learning space through the event “Early Childhood Learning Media Exhibition: Fun Learning, Advancing Literacy.” This exhibition showcased a variety of educational play tools created by students of the Early Childhood Education (PGPAUD) Study Program, designed to support creative and interactive learning for young children. The exhibition invited preschool students from nearby schools to visit the library and take part in hands-on learning experiences. In a child-friendly atmosphere, participants were encouraged to learn through play using various learning media that stimulate motor skills, cognitive development, language abilities, and basic literacy. Each educational tool was designed not only to be visually engaging but also to carry clear learning objectives. Through this event, the library served as an inclusive and welcoming literacy space for children from an early age. The children were introduced to the library not only as a place for books, but also as a safe and enjoyable environment for exploring knowledge. At the same time, PGPAUD students were given the opportunity to implement their learning concepts directly in a real educational setting. This exhibition reflects a meaningful collaboration between the library and the academic community in supporting early childhood literacy development. It is hoped that the event will help foster a love for learning from an early age, strengthen literacy culture, and introduce the library as an important partner in children’s education. Pengabdian Masyarakat: SMPN 57 Surabaya

As part of its commitment to supporting education and literacy in the community, PCU Library actively participated in a community service program held at SMPN 57 Surabaya. The program initiated by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI., a lecturer from the Architecture Department of PCU, in collaboration with Mr. Iman Subekti, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer from Elementary Teacher Education Department of PCU and the PCU Library. During the event, students created their own trash bin designs to support proper waste separation: organic, inorganic, and residual. This creative activity not only engaged students in hands-on learning, but also raised awareness about environmental responsibility and correct waste sorting. In addition, a fun and educational money literacy game was conducted to introduce students to basic financial management concepts such as saving, distinguishing needs vs. wants, and budgeting. This initiative reflects PCU Library’s active role in extending literacy impact beyond the campus, reaching out to schools and communities to nurture a generation that is more mindful and financially literate.
ArchFest 2025 – Threads of Time: Weaving Heritage into Function

PCU Library is proud to support Architecture Festival (ArchFest) 2025, an international architectural design competition organized annually by the Architecture Department of Petra Christian University. This year marks the 18th ArchFest, and the theme is “Threads of Time: Weaving Heritage into Function.” The theme invites students from around the world to rethink how old buildings, especially in Kota Lama Surabaya, can be reused with new functions while still preserving their cultural and historical value. Through the concept of adaptive reuse, young architects are encouraged to create designs that are modern, creative, and relevant but still respect the past. By becoming the official venue partner, PCU Library helps support this meaningful event by providing a space for students and the academic community to explore the relationship between architecture, culture, and history. This collaboration shows PCU Library’s commitment not only to knowledge and learning but also to celebrating creativity and preserving heritage for future generations.
