Surabaya, 12 February 2025 – PCU Library proudly presents Love Letters From God, an exhibition dedicated to showcasing the richness of Christian literature. This month-long exhibition invites visitors to explore a curated collection of inspiring books that convey messages of love, faith, and devotion. Located at the Exhibition Area on the 6th floor of PCU Library, this event runs from February 12 to March 12, 2025. Through this exhibition, readers can immerse themselves in thought-provoking works that strengthen spiritual growth and deepen their understanding of Christian teachings. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Giant Book, where visitors can express their appreciation and love for the library by leaving heartfelt messages. This interactive feature fosters a sense of community and shared inspiration among attendees. In addition to the exhibition, PCU Library has prepared engaging activities for visitors to enjoy: 📚 Freebies – Delight in free books and chocolates! 🍫 🎥 Reels Competition – Unleash your creativity and showcase your storytelling skills! 📖 Information Literacy Class – Learn more about navigating and utilizing library resources effectively.

Peluncuran: Windmolen Kerstboom 2024

The Windmolen Kerstboom or “Windmill Christmas Tree” was officially launched with a fun and lively event filled with music, activities, and cheerful moments for everyone. The Christmas tree is a symbol of joy and celebration in welcoming the birth of Christ. For Christmas 2024, Petra Christian University presents the “Windmolen Kerstboom” or Windmill Christmas Tree with a Dutch cultural theme. This tree is not only a work of art but also carries profound meaning. Constructed from the library’s collection of books, magazines, and audio-visual media, this Christmas tree serves as a reminder of the importance of literacy and credible sources of information in generating ideas and inspiration. Just as Dutch windmills pump and channel water from lowlands to rivers and surrounding farmlands to sustain life, the library’s collection provides valuable knowledge and inspiration for its readers, reflecting Christ’s birth as the ultimate hope for the world. This unique Christmas tree is made from approximately 930 books, 50 magazines, and 120 DVDs/VCDs, symbolizing the richness of knowledge and the library’s role in supporting academic and personal growth.

Literacy Seminar at SMA Petra 2 Surabaya: “Introduction to AI and How to Use It Wisely” PCU Library recently held a Literacy Seminar at SMA Petra 2 Surabaya with the theme “Introduction to AI and How to Use It Wisely.” This seminar aimed to introduce high school students to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and guide them on how to use this technology responsibly and effectively in their daily lives. During the session, students learned about what AI is, how it works, and how it’s already part of many tools and applications they use every day. From search engines and virtual assistants to content creation and learning platforms, AI is everywhere, and understanding it is becoming an essential skill for the future. The seminar also emphasized the importance of using AI wisely—balancing its benefits while being mindful of its limitations and ethical considerations. Students were encouraged to use AI to support learning, creativity, and problem-solving rather than relying on it entirely. Interactive discussions and examples kept the session engaging, allowing students to ask questions and share their thoughts about AI in their lives. This seminar not only gave students a clear introduction to AI but also motivated them to explore its possibilities and use it as a tool to grow and learn. Science Film Festival 2024: Emisi Nol Bersih dan Ekonomi Sirkular

The Science Film Festival 2024 was an exciting and inspiring event where students had the chance to learn about science in a fun and creative way! This year’s festival carried the theme “Net Zero and the Circular Economy,” focusing on sustainability, protecting the environment, and finding solutions for a better future. The films shown during the festival made science easy to understand and enjoyable. Through entertaining stories and visuals, students were introduced to interesting scientific ideas and discoveries that sparked curiosity and excitement. The festival created a fun environment for students to experience science outside of the classroom. It showed that science is not just about facts and formulas, but also about creativity, teamwork, and solving real-life problems. Pesan yang Datang Belakangan, written by Didiet Maulana, offers readers a deeply reflective and poignant exploration of life, love, and the intricate messages we often miss in the hustle and bustle of our daily routines. Maulana, known for his thoughtful writing, crafts a narrative that encourages introspection and highlights the importance of timing in understanding life’s bigger picture. In this book, Maulana takes the reader through a series of personal stories, woven together with themes of regret, missed opportunities, and the messages that come to us when we least expect them. The title, Pesan yang Datang Belakangan(The Message That Came Later), aptly captures the essence of the book—how certain life lessons or realizations often arrive too late, after we’ve gone through experiences and challenges that shape our understanding.

Seminar Perpustakaan Untuk Semua: Memajukan Layanan Disabilitas di Dunia Digital dan Fisik

PCU Library recently hosted the seminar “Libraries For All: Advancing Disability Services in the Digital and Physical Realms,” a significant event aimed at raising awareness and promoting inclusion within library services for individuals with disabilities. The seminar brought together library professionals, educators, and advocates to explore strategies for improving both digital and physical accessibility in libraries.Throughout the seminar, experts in the field discussed how libraries can better serve individuals with disabilities by adapting their facilities and digital resources. Topics ranged from designing accessible physical spaces to implementing assistive technologies and developing inclusive digital content. Key discussions also highlighted the importance of training library staff to support diverse needs, ensuring that all visitors feel welcome and can fully participate in library activities.This event marked a crucial step forward in our commitment to making libraries more accessible for everyone. We are proud to have contributed to this important conversation and look forward to seeing how the ideas discussed will continue to shape the future of library services.

Permainan Literasi Keuangan di Yayasan Cinta Baca Sidoarjo

We are excited to share that our recent community service event at Yayasan Cinta Baca in Sidoarjo was a great success! This time, we focused on teaching money literacy in a fun and engaging way through a special game designed by the Architecture Department (Led by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI., lecturer from Architecture PCU). At the same time, Elementary Teacher Education Department (Iman Subekti, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer from Elementary Teacher Education Department) led a session on basic math skills, helping the participants practice important concepts in an interactive and enjoyable manner.We are grateful to the Yayasan Cinta Baca team for welcoming us again and to our partners in the Elementary Teacher Education and Architecture Departments for their collaboration. This event was a fantastic opportunity to learn together and make a positive impact on the community. We look forward to more events like this in the future!

Pameran Perpustakaan 101: Mengenal Perpustakaan

Our “Library 101: Getting to Know Your Library” exhibition was a great way for new students and visitors to learn about what our library has to offer. This event was set up to introduce everyone to the basics of using the library, with displays showing all the different resources and services available. Students were able to check out information stations about study spaces, how to borrow books, reserve rooms, and access online resources, along with unique features like our Kindle lending for use inside the library. A fun trivia quiz was part of the exhibition, where students could test their knowledge about the library and win a small prize for participating. This made it easy to learn about the library while having a bit of fun! We’re glad to see so many students enjoying the exhibition and quiz. July 28 to August 3, 2024 Professional Development Workshop on Library & Information Services (PDWLIS) 2024 brings an exciting opportunity for library professionals from the Maldives to explore global advancements in library and information science. This program is designed to provide insights into how libraries are adapting and growing. As part of their visit, the PDWLIS 2024 participants took part in a focused workshop session entitled “Librarian’s Role in Research Support Services.” This workshop provided an in-depth look at how modern libraries are pivotal in supporting academic research through specialized services, cutting-edge technology, and expert guidance. Our librarian, Mr. Chandra Pratama shared insights and discussed strategies for enhancing research support, sparking engaging discussions among attendees. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the PDWLIS 2024 participants for visiting Petra Christian University Library and contributing to this valuable exchange of knowledge and ideas. It has been a pleasure to share our achievements and learn from the global perspectives brought by our esteemed guests.

Pameran dan Talkshow: Lama tapi Baru "Kota Lama Surabaya"

Petra Christian University Library hosted an engaging event titled “Old but New: Kota Lama Surabaya”. This event featured a talkshow and an exhibition that celebrated the history and ongoing development of Surabaya’s old town. The exhibition showcased a fascinating collection of photographs comparing the past and present of Surabaya. Visitors could see images of iconic buildings and landmarks, showing how they have changed over the years. The display also included creative works from our architecture students, who presented their ideas about various buildings in Kota Lama Surabaya. Attendees had the chance to join in lively discussions, share ideas, and gain new insights into the importance of blending tradition with innovation. The event highlighted the university’s dedication to appreciating local history while embracing future advancements.
