Workshop: Artificial Intelligence for People with Disabilities in Education and Employment

In today’s rapidly evolving digital era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an innovative solution to enhance inclusivity for people with disabilities. This Artificial Intelligence workshop aims to introduce various AI applications that can support the independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities across different aspects of daily living. As a city committed to becoming a disability-friendly city, Surabaya has developed a range of inclusive policies and facilities, from public infrastructure to social empowerment programs. This workshop will strengthen these initiatives by introducing technologies such as ChatGPT and Envision AI, which enhance visual accessibility and support learning for students with special needs. Additionally, discussions will cover how AI can help create more inclusive workplaces and how AI-based counseling services can support the mental health of people with disabilities. Through interactive sessions, technology demonstrations, and discussions with experts, participants will gain insights and practical skills to leverage AI in everyday life. This workshop is open to educators, professionals, individuals with disabilities, and anyone interested in contributing to building a more inclusive future through technology, especially with Surabaya leading as a model city for inclusivity in Indonesia. Seminar Literasi: SMA Petra 5 Surabaya

PCU Library had the wonderful opportunity to visit SMA Petra 5 Surabaya and hold a Literacy Seminar focusing on Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and How to Use It Wisely as Students and in University Life. The event aimed to introduce students to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), helping them understand what AI is, how it works, and, most importantly, how to use it responsibly in their academic journey. In an era where AI tools are becoming increasingly common in education, it is crucial for students to not just use technology, but to use it wisely — balancing innovation with integrity. The seminar also featured interactive game sessions led by PCU students, making the learning experience fun and engaging. Through these games, students could better grasp the concepts of AI while actively participating and enjoying the activities. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by SMA Petra 5 students made the sessions lively and memorable. We would like to sincerely thank SMA Petra 5 Surabaya for inviting us and providing such a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. It was truly a pleasure to share knowledge and learn together. We hope this seminar encouraged the students to use AI thoughtfully and ethically as they continue their academic journeys.

Pameran: Aku Cinta Bahasa Indonesia

In support of language preservation and student creativity, PCU Library collaborated with the Department of General Courses (DMU) to hold an exhibition titled “Aku Cinta Bahasa Indonesia”. The event took place on the 6th floor of the PCU Library, showcasing creative works from students enrolled in the Bahasa Indonesia course for the 2024/2025 academic year. The exhibition featured a variety of works reflecting students’ love, innovation, and understanding of the Indonesian language as a symbol of national identity. Each work was accompanied by a title, description, and voting number, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the displayed creations. As part of the event, PCU Library organized a voting session to select the best work, with participation open to lecturers, administrative staff, and students of Petra Christian University. Through this exhibition, students are expected not only to enhance their Indonesian language skills but also to foster a deeper sense of pride and love for their national culture. PCU Library remains committed to being a space that appreciates and nurtures student potential across various fields.

Workshop: Bunda Belajar, Anak Pintar

Surabaya, February 19, 2025 – Petra Christian University (PCU) Library once again presents an educational program beneficial to the community. This time, through the workshop titled “Bunda Belajar, Anak Pintar”, the event served as a platform for Bunda PAUD to enhance their knowledge in educating young children. This workshop is a collaboration between PCU Library and Bunda PAUD Kecamatan Tegalsari. The event featured speakers such as Ms. Maria Nala Damajanti, S.Sn., M.Hum., a lecturer from the Visual Communication Design Program at PCU and Bunda PAUD of Kec. Tegalsari, along with Ms. Christina Albertina Ludwinia Parung, M.Psi., Psychologist, and lecturer from the General Subjects Department at PCU. Both speakers shared valuable insights and practical tips that can be applied to better support children’s development. The enthusiasm of the participants was palpable throughout the workshop. The attending Bunda PAUD actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences in educating children in their respective communities. Not only mothers, but fathers who attended (Panda – Papa PAUD) also participated in the interactive sessions, demonstrating their support for early childhood education. With this workshop, it is hoped that the acquired knowledge will inspire parents and educators in guiding children to grow into intelligent and well-rounded individuals. Surabaya, 12 February 2025 – PCU Library proudly presents Love Letters From God, an exhibition dedicated to showcasing the richness of Christian literature. This month-long exhibition invites visitors to explore a curated collection of inspiring books that convey messages of love, faith, and devotion. Located at the Exhibition Area on the 6th floor of PCU Library, this event runs from February 12 to March 12, 2025. Through this exhibition, readers can immerse themselves in thought-provoking works that strengthen spiritual growth and deepen their understanding of Christian teachings. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Giant Book, where visitors can express their appreciation and love for the library by leaving heartfelt messages. This interactive feature fosters a sense of community and shared inspiration among attendees. Peluncuran: Windmolen Kerstboom 2024

The Windmolen Kerstboom or “Windmill Christmas Tree” was officially launched with a fun and lively event filled with music, activities, and cheerful moments for everyone. The Christmas tree is a symbol of joy and celebration in welcoming the birth of Christ. For Christmas 2024, Petra Christian University presents the “Windmolen Kerstboom” or Windmill Christmas Tree with a Dutch cultural theme. This tree is not only a work of art but also carries profound meaning. Constructed from the library’s collection of books, magazines, and audio-visual media, this Christmas tree serves as a reminder of the importance of literacy and credible sources of information in generating ideas and inspiration. Just as Dutch windmills pump and channel water from lowlands to rivers and surrounding farmlands to sustain life, the library’s collection provides valuable knowledge and inspiration for its readers, reflecting Christ’s birth as the ultimate hope for the world. This unique Christmas tree is made from approximately 930 books, 50 magazines, and 120 DVDs/VCDs, symbolizing the richness of knowledge and the library’s role in supporting academic and personal growth.

From search engines and virtual assistants to content creation and learning platforms, AI is everywhere, and understanding it is becoming an essential skill for the future. The seminar also emphasized the importance of using AI wisely—balancing its benefits while being mindful of its limitations and ethical considerations. Students were encouraged to use AI to support learning, creativity, and problem-solving rather than relying on it entirely. Interactive discussions and examples kept the session engaging, allowing students to ask questions and share their thoughts about AI in their lives. Science Film Festival 2024: Emisi Nol Bersih dan Ekonomi Sirkular

The Science Film Festival 2024 was an exciting and inspiring event where students had the chance to learn about science in a fun and creative way! This year’s festival carried the theme “Net Zero and the Circular Economy,” focusing on sustainability, protecting the environment, and finding solutions for a better future. The films shown during the festival made science easy to understand and enjoyable. Through entertaining stories and visuals, students were introduced to interesting scientific ideas and discoveries that sparked curiosity and excitement. The festival created a fun environment for students to experience science outside of the classroom. It showed that science is not just about facts and formulas, but also about creativity, teamwork, and solving real-life problems. Maulana, known for his thoughtful writing, crafts a narrative that encourages introspection and highlights the importance of timing in understanding life’s bigger picture. In this book, Maulana takes the reader through a series of personal stories, woven together with themes of regret, missed opportunities, and the messages that come to us when we least expect them. The title, Pesan yang Datang Belakangan(The Message That Came Later), aptly captures the essence of the book—how certain life lessons or realizations often arrive too late, after we’ve gone through experiences and challenges that shape our understanding.

PCU Library recently hosted the seminar “Libraries For All: Advancing Disability Services in the Digital and Physical Realms,” a significant event aimed at raising awareness and promoting inclusion within library services for individuals with disabilities. The seminar brought together library professionals, educators, and advocates to explore strategies for improving both digital and physical accessibility in libraries.Throughout the seminar, experts in the field discussed how libraries can better serve individuals with disabilities by adapting their facilities and digital resources. Topics ranged from designing accessible physical spaces to implementing assistive technologies and developing inclusive digital content. Key discussions also highlighted the importance of training library staff to support diverse needs, ensuring that all visitors feel welcome and can fully participate in library activities.This event marked a crucial step forward in our commitment to making libraries more accessible for everyone.
