The Petra Christian University Library hosted an inspiring and inclusive academic event: A book discussion titled “Libraries for Everyone: Re-examining Universal Design and Conversations on Inclusive Libraries in Australia and Indonesia.” The event took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Room W303 of the Radius Prawiro Building (Building W) at Jl. Siwalankerto 121-131, Surabaya.
The event featured prominent academics and practitioners who explored key concepts regarding Universal Design within the context of inclusive libraries. The discussion was led by Ar. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI, and was further enriched by the participation of discussant Dr. Linda Bustan (DMU UKP) and opening remarks from Eka Prastama W., S.T., a Commissioner of the National Commission on Disabilities.
The overarching theme, “Libraries for Everyone,” emphasized the importance of accessibility, equality, and sustainability in library management. By revisiting the concept of Universal Design, the event aimed to foster the creation of learning spaces that are welcoming to all, including people with disabilities. This initiative aligns with Petra Christian University commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goals of Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
