Community Service: SMPN 57 Surabaya

As part of its commitment to supporting education and literacy in the community, PCU Library actively participated in a community service program held at SMPN 57 Surabaya. The program initiated by Mr. Gunawan Tanuwidjaja, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IAI., a lecturer from the Architecture Department of PCU, in collaboration with Mr. Iman Subekti, S.Pd., M.Pd., lecturer from Elementary Teacher Education Department of PCU and the PCU Library.

During the event, students created their own trash bin designs to support proper waste separation: organic, inorganic, and residual. This creative activity not only engaged students in hands-on learning, but also raised awareness about environmental responsibility and correct waste sorting. In addition, a fun and educational money literacy game was conducted to introduce students to basic financial management concepts such as saving, distinguishing needs vs. wants, and budgeting.

This initiative reflects PCU Library’s active role in extending literacy impact beyond the campus, reaching out to schools and communities to nurture a generation that is more mindful and financially literate.
